MUMS offer the Faecal Immunological Test known as the FIT TEST. This includes FOB ( Faecal Occult Blood ) in addition to the FIT Test.
We send a sample of your faeces to our partner laboratory to check to see if there is any blood present. You should be investigated if there is a significant amount of blood in your faeces. Positive FIT test results can indicate an ulcer, diverticulitis, IBS, piles but more importantly it could be cancer.
The FIT test is important – especially if you have a family history of bowel cancer or if you have symptoms.
You should consider a Lung Health Screen/Early CDT Lung test if you have any of the following risk factors:
The EarlyCDT®-Lung is a simple blood test to aid in the risk assessment and early detection of lung cancer. This test detects circulating antibodies against the cancer cells in the blood. Antibodies can be detected well before patient become symptomatic. The turnaround time for results is approximately 10-15 days.
MUMS Consultant Urological Surgeon, Mr Dev Sarmah offers a ONE STOP SHOP Consultation and Cystoscopy Clinic.
This service is generally for men and women aged over 40yrs with the following conditions:
If the mole appears suspicious when the specialist assesses it with his/her dermoscope – you will be asked to agree to the mole being sent to our laboratory for path analysis. This costs £220.00. If you do not wish for pathology analysis the specialist may not remove the mole and instead – write to your NHS Practitioner to refer you to an NHS Dermatologist. It is imperative that we discover the mole is benign and not malignant.

MUMS Private GP who specialises in women’s health, Dr Nimah Bholah – offers consultation, cervical smear and free of charge follow up with results for cervical smear testing. MUMS Consultant Gynaecologists – Miss Poonam Pradhan and Miss Natalie Woodhead offer cervical smear testing too.
The Pap test ( cervical smear ) can find abnormal cells in the cervix which may turn into cancer. The HPV test looks for the (high risk) HPV virus (human papillomavirus).
The guidelines around cervical cancer have changed and HPV screening is now offered as routine to select patient for further testing such as colposcopy. HPV is now seen to be useful in detecting women at high risk of cervical cancer risk than abnormal cells. A smear in the NHS or at the GP is done to only detect HPV virus, however at MUMS we test our clients for both HPV as well as and cytology (cells).
ROMA is a qualitative serum test. CA 125 is a marker for ovarian cancer and ROMA looks at the CA125 score and the HE4 test score plus a woman’s menopausal status to check for pre- and post-menopausal risk of cancer and malignant disease from ovarian cancer.
This combined HE4 + ROMA test is more expensive than CA 125 on its own as it significantly raises the sensitivity when detecting ovarian cancers.
By using both the CA125 and HE4 results, ROMA (A risk of ovarian malignancy algorithm) is calculated to show whether you are at high or low risk.
This test is not an ovarian cancer screen on its own and must not be seen as one. If you are worried about ovarian cancer, you should book a scan and consultation with MUMS Consultant Gynaecologists and discuss this test.

CA 125 looks at the amount of CA 125 protein in your blood. 125 is a Cancer Antigen. CA 125 is widely used to look for early signs of ovarian cancer in women who are at high risk.
CA 125 on its own is not an ovarian cancer diagnostic test. Other conditions can increase CA 125 levels. For example, fibroids can mean the CA 125 is raised as can menstruation.
A testicular ultrasound is the primary imaging method used to observe and diagnose abnormalities in the testicles. Ultrasound can:
MUMS offer the PSA and Stockholm3 test to help in diagnosing cancer of the prostate.
