Private Consultant Gynaecologists, Fertility and Reproductive Medicine Specialists offering consultations, scans, and investigations for previous and recurring miscarriage of pregnancy

Miss Poonam Pradhan, and Miss Natalie Woodhead, Private Consultant Gynaecologists and Mr Justin Chu, Consultant Specialist in Fertility and Reproductive Medicine at MUMS Solihull, offer investigation and treatment for miscarriage and recurrent miscarriage.

Recurrent miscarriages affect 1% of couples trying to conceive.  To support patients through this somewhat distressing time, our investigations and treatments can determine whether an underlying condition has caused a miscarriage to occur.

MUMS miscarriage investigations may include:

  • Consultations
  • Pelvic Scan
  • Comprehensive and Basic blood profiling
  • Anti Phospholid Antibody Syndrome testing
  • Parental chromosome analysis

Support and care are the mainstays whilst treating patients with recurrent miscarriages. At MUMS, we take pride in providing this service.

Experiencing miscarriage can be physically and emotionally devastating. While many miscarriages are caused by chance chromosome changes that cannot be prevented, sometimes there may be an underlying medical reason — and identifying this can make a real difference.

Investigations can help to:

✔ Identify treatable causes
Some conditions — such as thyroid disorders, clotting tendencies, or autoimmune conditions — can increase the risk of miscarriage. Many of these are treatable.

✔ Improve future pregnancy outcomes
If a cause is found, treatment may reduce the risk of miscarriage in a future pregnancy.

✔ Provide reassurance
For some couples, results are completely normal. Although this can feel frustrating, it can also provide reassurance that there is no ongoing medical problem.

✔ Guide personalised care
Results help your clinician plan the safest and most appropriate monitoring and treatment for future pregnancies.

At MUMS, we take an individualised approach and will discuss whether testing is appropriate for you.

Miscarriage Profiles (panels of blood tests) available at MUMS

Chromosome Analysis is available if required. The cost for the Chromosome Analysis (KARYOTYPE) is £525.00 for each parent if added to the comprehensive and basic profile. If you opt for the basic and chromosome profile test, we can add an additional parent Karyotype as only one parent is included.

Following a blood test and consultation, a Free of charge remote consultation is organised for you when we receive the results with Mr Justin Chu on Wednesdays to have the result interpreted to you. Alternatively, you can choose to have a £175 face to face follow up.

What’s the Difference?

Comprehensive Profile (£680)

Looks at:

  • Hormones
  • Vitamin levels
  • Diabetes screening
  • Autoimmune causes
  • Inherited clotting conditions

Best for patients wanting the widest possible screening (excluding chromosome testing) for patients with a family history of thrombosis and second trimester miscarriages.

Basic Profile + Chromosome Test (£610)

Covers:

  • Thyroid
  • Vitamin D
  • Blood count
  • Autoimmune miscarriage causes
  • Chromosome Analysis

Suitable if chromosome testing is important but full clotting genetics are not required.

Basic Profile (£220)

A focused, affordable screening:

  • Thyroid
  • Vitamin D
  • Blood count
  • Autoimmune miscarriage causes

Often used as a first-line investigation.

Private Genetic Testing of Products of Conception

Products of Conception tissue analysis for chromosomal/genetic causes of miscarriage is offered at MUMS for women who miscarry a pregnancy up to 12 weeks - the opportunity to have the products of conception analysed, whether the miscarriage happens at home, in hospital or at MUMS.

Overall, the success rate of this combination of testing is 95%, some samples may fail for both tests.

Our laboratory are experts in chromosome analysis. They do this to ascertain whether your embryo was affected by a chromosome abnormality or will confirm that the pregnancy was unaffected by chromosome abnormality – i.e. – has normal chromosomes.

Future Pregnancies following miscarriage

Our Gynaecologists offer a scan and consultation for early pregnancies following miscarriage, recurring miscarriages, difficult fertility journeys and for complex cases where specialist care is required. This costs £150.00. Progesterone may be prescribed at this appointment.

Where patients have already had a scan and consultation with Miss Pradhan or Miss Woodhead - and have become pregnant – then a £50.00 Remote telephone consultation can take place for the prescribing of Progesterone. This service is suitable for pregnant women who have consulted with MUMS Gynaecologists previously or have had a recent scan at MUMS and have decided they would like to take Progesterone. Where appropriate Miss Pradhan and Miss Woodhead will prescribe progesterone.

You can book online or call us on 0121 704 2669.

We have ample parking and great patient reviews and have been offering private gynaecology services for two decades.
