More about MUMS private 2nd Opinion Antenatal Scan and Consultation

MUMS offers second opinion antenatal scans with our Consultants in Maternal and Fetal Medicine - Mr Anoop Rehal and Mr Davide Casagrandi– at our private state of the art antenatal clinic in Solihull.

If a problem is identified with your baby during a scan you have had within or outside the NHS, we can offer a second opinion consultation and ultrasound scan. Our Consultants in Fetal Medicine have extensive experience in antenatal ultrasound scans. They are therefore well placed to perform detailed scans and consultations.

The cost of a second opinion scan and consultation at MUMS is £300.00.

The consultation and scan are comprehensive, detailed, and thorough. We offer private second opinion antenatal scans so you can benefit from a different clinician’s medical opinion to assess your baby’s development and a fresh perspective on any concerns.

A Private Second Opinion Scan and Consultation at MUMS Solihull includes:

  • Detailed consultation to discuss pregnancy concerns which may include, pregnancy history, abnormal scan findings, high risk results from Nuchal and NIPT
  • Ultrasound of your baby's growth and anatomy.
  • Medical Report
  • USB Stick with images & video/clips
  • Printed Scan Images

Specialist fetal medicine care is sometimes required where there is a concern about an abnormality or condition relating to mum or baby.

Our Fetal Medicine Consultants advise and manage complex and multiple pregnancies in the NHS and privately. They specialise in fetal and maternal medicine. Being leaders in their NHS units mean they are familiar with all pregnancy related problems and matters affecting the unborn baby.

Anoop and Davide can provide a private second opinion antenatal scan and consultation which is independent from your NHS scan to give you a comprehensive fresh perspective or you may simply want a consultant of your choice, a private clinic of your choice who will be thorough and detailed in scanning and assessing your baby’s fetal development for peace of mind. You may be concerned about your pregnancy or may have a medical condition. Women who have had previous pregnancy complications quite often want a more detailed consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • If you are over 12 weeks there is no need to attend with a full bladder.

  • The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists belief is that ultrasound, even Doppler ultrasound, is an inherently safe technology that has become embedded among medical and non-medical ultrasound operators.

Brief use of Doppler is not seen an unsafe practice in which to listen to babies’ heartbeat for a few seconds.

When performing Doppler ultrasound before 11+0 weeks, the machine parameters are adjusted by the clinician so that the TI is maintained less than or equal to 1.0 and the exposure time is limited to that necessary to obtain the clinically required information – IE – Hear the heartbeat

At MUMS - we work to the ALARA principle, As Low as Reasonably Achievable, and will use the Doppler for the shortest time that will achieve a good result and limit any risk.

The ultrasound scan machines used at MUMS have their thermal indices set within specified safety limits, and all the consultants and sonographers at MUMS are registered practitioners with their own base professions (doctor, nurse, sonographer) who have received training on ultrasound physics and safety during their qualification process.

  • At MUMS we have fetal medicine doctors who have many years of experience. If you would like a second opinion or the USS explaining in more detail, please book in so we can assist you.
  • Yes, all your babies measurements will be on a obstetric USS report, you will be given a copy and we can email you a copy as well
