You can choose to have a private test at MUMS with one of our phlebotomists which costs £30.00 + the cost of the chosen test.

However, we recommend you choose a £110.00 GP Consultation appointment to ensure that the most appropriate test for you is performed. If you opt for a consultation in which to have the test, then you will be followed up with a free of charge telephone consultation to have the results explained to you.

If you opt for a phlebotomy appointment in which to have the test – we will email your results to you.

Lipid Profile £75.00 includes:

  • Triglycerides
  • Cholesterol
  • HDL
  • LDL/Calculated
  • NON-HDL Cholesterol

Lipids are fats that are important constituents of cells and sources of energy. They are necessary for life, but abnormal levels may cause cardiovascular disease. A lipid profile measures the level of specific lipids in the blood.

Triglycerides

A different kind of blood fat that MUMS can also measure. To evaluate the condition of your heart, a cholesterol test can be used in conjunction with other quick examinations.
High levels can increase the risk of heart disease and are often linked with:

  • Being overweight
  • High sugar/carbohydrate intake
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Diabetes or insulin resistance

HDL Cholesterol (“Good cholesterol”)

  • HDL removes cholesterol from the bloodstream and takes it back to the liver.
  • Higher levels = better protection for the heart.
  • Low HDL = increased risk.

LDL Cholesterol (Calculated) (“Bad cholesterol”)

  • LDL carries cholesterol to tissues.
If too much LDL is circulating, it can stick to artery walls and form plaques.

High LDL = higher risk of:

  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Atherosclerosis (narrowed arteries)

It's calculated using the other results unless triglycerides are very high

Non-HDL Cholesterol

This is Cholesterol minus HDL.

It includes all types of harmful cholesterol particles, including:

  • LDL
  • VLDL
  • Remnants

Non-HDL is often considered a better predictor of cardiovascular risk than LDL alone, especially if triglycerides are high.

Cardiovascular Risk Profile

A simple blood test at MUMS can test you to assess your heart disease risk by looking at the range to see if your range is abnormal which can indicate heart disease and risk of stroke.
