Private Menopause Clinic at MUMS Solihull

At MUMS, our menopause and treatment clinics are led by Consultant Gynaecologist Miss Poonam Pradhan, Dr Nimah and Dr Vandna.

If you prefer to understand your own personal risk in terms of commencing HRT or continuing HRT you may prefer to see Mr Seni – Breast Reassurance Clinic. There are options available to assess HRT and the risk of Breast Cancer – Genetic Testing, Breast Ultrasound, Family History etc.

Poonam is an experienced gynaecologist who is an expert in problems arising from HRT (hormone replacement therapy) such as persistent bleeding and pelvic pain. Poonam is a senior gynaecologist and works at Heartlands Hospital, Solihull Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Spire Parkway Hospital. She is an expert at pelvic ultrasound scans and runs the two week wait clinics in the NHS.

Dr Nimah and Dr Vandna are Private GPs with a special interest in Menopause and Women’s Health.

Menopause Consultation and Scan with Miss Poonam Pradhan cost £400.

These appointments are best suited for women who take HRT but experience abnormal bleeding, or who have side effects from HRT. These women typically need a pelvic scan and sometimes a biopsy to rule out any abnormal cells hiding inside the womb.

Menopause Consultation with Dr Nimah and Dr Vandna cost £150.

These appointments are best suited for women who are considering taking HRT and those who take HRT but are still symptomatic.

HRT and Breast Cancer Risk Consultation with Mr Seni Breast Surgeon £245

These appointments are best suited for women who are considering HRT but need to know what their own personal risk is before commencing treatment – or for those women who have taken HRT >5yrs and want to know what their own personal risk is of continuing treatment. Mr Seni will explain the options available to you to help you decide what is best for you.  Click here for more information

Testosterone

Some women who take HRT and do not see the full benefits, for example – reduced libido – may wish to consider taking testosterone. This is for women who are post-menopausal. MUMS clinicians can prescribe testosterone and monitor testosterone levels every 3 months.

Menopause and HRT

Menopause is a natural stage of life. The average age for women to reach the menopause in the UK is 51, but this can vary widely. It is common to have symptoms including hot flushes, anxiety, brain fog and muscle aches and pains. It is recommended that women commence HRT within 10 years of their menopause. It is recognised that taking HRT during menopause improves hot flushes, mood swings, reduced sex drive, and night sweats. HRT also reduces cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis.  There are many different types of HRT, and this will be discussed with you in detail prior to providing you with a prescription.

HRT is prescribed by Poonam, Nimah, and Vandna. It is usual to suggest a 3 month follow up after starting HRT.

It can be frustrating for women who try to navigate the NHS system to obtain HRT. The private menopause and HRT clinic at MUMS has no waiting times. The menopause consultation is unrushed, in-depth, and comprehensive. Appointments are available 4 times a week. We offer blood tests and can dispense HRT on the same day.

Many women choose private HRT and private treatments for menopause as they wish to be seen sooner and enjoy a personal relationship with their consultant gynaecologist or specialist menopause GP.

What is included in a menopause consultation?

Comprehensive Consultation and Scan with a Gynaecologist or Specialist Menopause Doctor Consultation and:

  • Full Medical History
  • Lifestyle Assessment
  • Blood Pressure and Pulse

  • Advice on Breast Screening
  • Advice and prescribing of HRT (Hormone replacement therapy)

Nimah, Poonam, and Vandna will arrange hormone/menopausal blood tests, as necessary.

A scan in the menopausal age group is done to diagnose cancers. A scan is also crucial in women bleeding on HRT. The scan will involve a tummy scan and a trans vaginal scan. The endometrium or the lining of the uterus is thickened in conditions like a polyp or cancers.
