Menopause Clinic

At MUMS, our menopause and treatment clinics are led by Consultant Gynaecologist Miss Poonam Pradhan and Miss Nimah Bholah, Private GP.

Poonam is an experienced gynaecologist who is an expert in problems arising from HRT (hormone replacement therapy) such as persistent bleeding and pelvic pain. Poonam is a senior gynaecologist and works at Heartlands Hospital, Solihull Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Spire Parkway Hospital. She is an expert at pelvic ultrasound scans and runs the two week wait clinics in the NHS.

Nimah is a Private GP with a special interest in Menopause and Women’s Health. She offers 45-minute Menopause consultations at MUMS, removes and fits hormonal and copper coils, all contraceptive services and offers well woman screening.

Menopause Consultation and Scan with Miss Poonam Pradhan cost £400.

These appointments are best suited for women who take HRT but experience abnormal bleeding, or who have side effects from HRT. These women typically need a pelvic scan and sometimes a biopsy to rule out any abnormal cells hiding inside the womb.

Menopause consultation with Dr Nimah Bholah cost £150.

These appointments are best suited for women who are considering taking HRT and those who take HRT but are still symptomatic.

Testosterone

Some women who take HRT and do not see the full benefits, for example – reduced libido – may wish to consider taking testosterone. This is for women who are post-menopausal. MUMS clinicians – Miss Poonam Pradhan and Dr Nimah Bholah – can prescribe testosterone and monitor testosterone levels every 3 months.

Menopause and HRT

Menopause is a natural stage of life. The average age for women to reach the menopause in the UK is 51, but this can vary widely. It is common to have symptoms including hot flushes, anxiety, brain fog and muscle aches and pains. It is recommended that women commence HRT within 10 years of their menopause. It is recognised that taking HRT during menopause improves hot flushes, mood swings, reduced sex drive and night sweats. HRT also reduces cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis.  There are many different types of HRT, and this will be discussed with you in detail prior to providing you with a prescription.

HRT is prescribed by Miss Poonam Pradhan, Consultant Gynaecologist and Dr Nimah Bholah. It is usual to suggest a 3 month follow up after starting HRT.

It can be frustrating for women who try to navigate the NHS system to obtain HRT. The private menopause and HRT clinic at MUMS has no waiting times. The menopause consultation is unrushed, in-depth, and comprehensive. Appointments are available 4 times a week. We offer blood tests and can dispense HRT on the same day.

Many women choose private HRT and private treatments for menopause as they wish to be seen sooner and enjoy a personal relationship with their consultant gynaecologist or specialist menopause GP.

What is included in a menopause consultation?

Comprehensive Consultation and Scan with a Gynaecologist or Specialist Menopause GP Consultation and:

  • Full Medical History
  • Lifestyle Assessment

  • Advice on Breast Screening

Miss Pradhan or Dr Nimah will arrange hormone/menopausal blood tests, as necessary.

A scan in the menopausal age group is done to diagnose cancers. A scan is also crucial in women bleeding on HRT. The scan will involve a tummy scan and a trans vaginal scan. The endometrium or the lining of the uterus is thickened in conditions like a polyp or cancers.
