Dr Mhairi Rahim, Consultant Psychiatrist for Older Patients, The Elderly – Aged over 60 years

Dr Mhairi Rahim, Consultant Psychiatrist works in the NHS in Warwickshire and privately at MUMS – offering general psychiatry for elderly patients and offers memory assessments for dementia.

Dr Mhairi Rahim has specialist experience in the assessment and treatment of older people with mental health problems. These may commonly include problems with low or elated mood, anxiety, psychosis, or memory problems. Mhairi can see and treat anyone over the age of 60 who has mental health concerns without a referral. Only outpatient treatment is offered and so if you or your family are concerned about safety or that suspect you need admission you should discuss with your GP or 111 as we are unable to provide private admissions.

Your initial appointment will be for 1 hour and follow ups are 30 minutes. We would advise being accompanied by a relative or friend for collateral information. Please bring a list of your current medication to the appointment. At the appointment we will explore the difficulties you are experiencing, as well as discussing your background.

It is usually possible to reach a diagnosis and agree a treatment plan by the end of the first appointment, though this may take longer if the situation is complex or further investigations are required. If you are being referred because of concerns regarding your memory, there is a specific memory pathway described in more detail separately. Additionally, it is sometimes necessary to arrange additional tests, for example brain scans or blood tests which incur further charges.

Mhairi can can issue private prescriptions whilst stabilising treatments and beyond this with follow up appointments. It is then at the discretion of your NHS GP whether they are willing to take over prescribing recommendations when offered shared care agreements.

You do not need a referral to consult with our psychiatrists MUMS. You can call us on 0121 704 2669 or email us – administrator@mums.me.uk to make an appointment.

We have ample parking and great patient reviews.
