This form of ultrasound has revolutionised the way in which we can all view the developing baby.
 

When is the best time to view the baby in 4D?

The best time to have a high definition 4D scan is between 26 and 30 weeks.
If you are having twins, we suggest that you attend from 22-26 weeks.

You will see your baby’s face, limbs, heartbeat, and movements. Our consultants will give you take away images, stills and video’s.  The baby’s growth, position, appearance, and function of the placenta are examined. If you wish to know the gender – that also can be revealed.

A 4D baby scan is a private ultrasound that captures real-time, moving three-dimensional images of your baby in the womb. Unlike a standard 2D NHS scan, a 4D scan uses advanced software to create a life-like video of the baby's face, movements, and features. During the scan, you may see your baby yawn, stretch, or suck their thumb.

Although a 4D Scan is not a diagnostic antenatal scan, because MUMS consultants are experts in fetal medicine, they will check baby’s growth, position and amniotic fluid.

Deciding to have your 4D at MUMS is extra special because you are being scanned by highly experienced Fetal Medicine Consultants. These scans are offered on Saturdays too.

4D Scans for single pregnancies cost £160, and for twin pregnancies £190

Preparation

Please can you try to drink at least an extra 2 litres of water or fluids in the 24 hours prior to the examination.  This can help to improve the fluid level around the baby which will enhance the 4D scan quality.

Your appointment is booked for 30 minutes. If the baby is in a position, where it is difficult to obtain images, we will send you for a walk and then rescan you. If we are still unable to obtain images, we will arrange a repeat (free of charge) appointment for you to return to MUMS.
