Antenatal Uterine Artery Doppler Ultrasound Scan

Mr Anoop Rehal, Fetal Medicine Consultant and Dr Davide Casagrandi, Obstetrics Specialist - offer uterine artery doppler measurements, recommended between 20-22 weeks of pregnancy. This diagnostic checks the flow of blood within the uterine arteries using ultrasound.

Some NHS Trusts include uterine artery Doppler Assessments as part of the Midtrimester (Anomaly) Scan.

Uterine Artery Doppler Assessment helps to identify pregnancies at higher risk of developing pre-eclampsia (mostly early onset pre-eclampsia) and/or having small babies due to intrauterine growth restriction. A normal study does not eliminate the risk.

Pre-eclampsia is high blood pressure in pregnant women. The uterine arteries within the uterine area are seen as vessels along the side of the cervix.

Uterine Artery Doppler Scans are normally performed between 20-22 weeks to:

• Check if blood is flowing effectively to the placenta
• Identify complications that may affect fetal growth
• Assess Pre-eclampsia risk

This is a non-invasive procedure.

MUMS consultants can offer closer monitoring, and additional scans to monitor baby’s growth if required.

The cost of this service is £100 as a stand-alone scan or £50 as an add on to any of MUMS Antenatal Scans
