Lumps, Bumps, Lipomas, Sebaceous Cysts – assessment and removal costs:
Excision, cutting, and shaving removal is for people aged 16 and over. Dr Sri will assess the lump, bump, lipoma, cyst, using a special dermatology scope, the naked eye and examination/palpation - and offer removal during the same appointment – if clinically appropriate. Sometimes – the removal procedure may need to be re-scheduled. Sometimes – the doctor – will advise that it cannot be removed at MUMS – for example, if it is too large, or located where removal is not possible.
Pre-assessment advice is not offered at MUMS. A paid assessment is required.
Dr Sri - will explain to you his/her findings upon assessment and whether they feel the lump, bump, lipoma, lesion, and cyst appears suspicious and if the removed lump, bump, lipoma, or cyst, requires laboratory pathology analysis to rule out anything sinister. If we send the tissue to the laboratory the cost is £240.00 for analysis. The doctor will advise whether this is necessary and obtain consent to send off. Most removed tissue is sent to the laboratory for analysis. It is rare that it will not need to be sent off.
Laboratory pathology reports are usually available within one week of the initial appointment. Bank Holidays can cause a delay in results. Sometimes, the laboratory needs to complete further testing, which can also incur a delay. When we receive the result of your tissue, we share a copy with the Doctor and organise a free of charge follow-up to discuss the results.
Some lumps, bumps, cysts, or lipomas may need a small biopsy in the first instance and the biopsy tissue sent to the laboratory for analysis. This costs £240 for laboratory pathology analysis and £175 for the biopsy. We can take a biopsy during the assessment.
Some lumps, bumps, cysts, or lipomas may need an ultrasound scan for characterisation prior to removal. MUMS offer ultrasound scan of lumps, bumps, and soft tissue. This costs £200 with MUMS sonographer – on Mondays and Thursdays.
Dr Sri will explain to you how they are going to remove the lump/bump/lipoma/cyst and whether excision, cutting or shaving is the best option, given its nature and location. You will probably need a couple of stitches if cutting or excision is performed as opposed to shaving. This is a straight-forward procedure.
This service is not for ganglions. If the assessment reveals that the lump/bump/lipoma/cyst is in fact a ganglion we cannot offer to remove or aspirate here at MUMS.
The area will be numbed with local anaesthetic, and we will obtain your consent prior to the removal.
You may wish to have this minor surgery because of the unsightly appearance or because this is causing problems for you.
You may just want peace of mind to know that the lump, bump, lipoma, or cyst is not cancerous. You may just want to know what causes them and what your options are. MUMS experts can assess, advise, treat, and remove. These are common and easily treated with minor surgery. Sometimes they can grow bigger and are often small, harmless, and painless. They can appear anywhere on the body. Our experts can remove these in a one stop setting by surgically removing it.
There is only one assessment fee, regardless of the number of lumps, bumps, lipomas, or cysts to be removed and we can remove multiple lumps, bumps, lipomas, and cysts within the same appointment.
Removal of lumps, bumps, lipomas, cysts are swift and affordable at MUMS – in a CQC registered environment with only expert clinicians who are suitably qualified to carry out private minor surgery.
You will be given a patient information leaflet to take home and offered a free of charge follow up appointment.
You do not need a referral from your GP. The NHS does not offer this service as it is regarded as a service of limited clinical value and regarded as a cosmetic procedure so opting for private removal of lumps and bumps is now common in private practice.
