Panorama NIPT

The Panorama NIPT and ultrasound scan costs £425 for the base test and £600 if you choose the extended microdeletion panel.

The viability scan associated with Panorama NIPT screening blood test simply checks heartbeat and gestation. This scan is not for gender reveal, anatomy/anomalygrowth and well-being or reassurance.

Panorama NIPT screening can be offered at any gestation period from 9/10 weeks. However – for ladies who are beyond 13 weeks – need to book NIPT screening as an add on to a 2nd/3rd trimester scan such as reassurance, growth and well-being or anomaly. We need to ensure you are booked with the most appropriate sonographer or consultant for pregnancy gestations beyond 13 weeks.

The Panorama NIPT base test includes:

Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome), Trisomy 18 (Edwards Syndrome), Trisomy 13 (Patau Syndrome)

  • Monosomy X – Also called Turners syndrome, a condition where a female is missing an X chromosome, and as a result, may have heart, endocrine, and learning problems.
  • Triploidy – an additional set of chromosomes – 69 instead of the normal 46 – an extra 23 chromosomes
  • DiGeorge syndrome (22q11.2 deletion syndrome) – The second most common condition after Down Syndrome. A condition caused by a small missing piece (‘deletion’) of chromosome 22, which can result in heart, kidney, learning, and growth problems.
  • Sex Chromosome Aneuploidies – It is useful to detect the difference in the number of X and Y chromosome. This can result in certain learning and/or behavioural challenges in addition to other health issues.
  • Fetal sex – Knowing whether your baby is male or female (also available with twins).
  • The Panorama base NIPT test can be used in singleton, twin, IVF, egg-donor pregnancies, and surrogate pregnancies.
  • All twin pregnancies can be screened for gender of both twins and zygosity (whether identical on non-identical).
  • Monozygotic twins (identical) can be screened for Trisomy 21, 18, 13 and Di George syndrome.
  • Dizygotic twins (non-identical) twins can be screened for Trisomy 21, 18 and 13 only.

The Panorama extended NIPT microdeletion panel will include the above PLUS:

  • 1p36 deletion syndrome
  • Prader-Willi syndrome
  • Angelman syndrome
  • Cri-du-chat syndrome

Please note that for Twin/Donor/Surrogacy pregnancies the extended Panorama panel/microdeletions cannot be performed.

Panorama blood test results – 5-7 days from arriving at the laboratory in the United States.

Delays can occur due to bank holidays, and sample failure.

There is a 1.5% chance that we might not get a result, and a repeat sample will be required. This can be due to lack of fetal DNA or laboratory failure.

Two blood tubes are sent to the laboratory and both samples are analysed to obtain as much cfDNA to be tested simultaneously.  If both samples fail, we offer a repeat test at no extra cost.

Panorama NIPTs performed at MUMS on Saturdays will not leave for couriering to the United States laboratory until the following Monday.

Sometimes – although rare – the result comes back as Atypical.

The meaning of this is that there are suspected findings outside the scope of the test, which may include, but is not limited to, fetal mosaicism, fetal chromosome abnormality, maternal chromosome abnormality, or a normal variation.
