MUMS Radiographer – Mr Adrian Burman offers MSK Thigh or Calf Ultrasound Scans to patients aged 16 and over.

Thigh Ultrasound

An MSK thigh or calf scan will assess the thigh muscles and tendons for abnormalities. If you have discomfort in the upper leg or thigh pain, you may want to have an ultrasound scan to identify if you have a tendon tear/muscle tear/sprain/arthritis or inflammation. Ultrasound scan of the thigh can see trapped nerves and collections of fluid.

Calf ( lower leg ) Ultrasound

A calf or lower leg ultrasound is useful for patients who have pain or discomfort in the lower leg or calf. This musculoskeletal scan in our state-of-the-art clinic can diagnose a wide range of injuries and conditions that may be causing you pain or discomfort. If you have ligament or tendon inflammation or a ligament ear – then ultrasound can confirm that.

The scan itself takes approximately 30 minutes. You do not need a GP referral and we have no waiting times at MUMS.

There is no preparation needed for a MSK thigh or calf ( lower leg ) scan.

Gel is used to glide the transducer and pictures and measurements of the Thigh or Calf Ultrasound area are taken by the Radiographer.

You will be given a detailed report on the day that you can give to your referring clinician and a copy will be in your MUMS electronic medical record should you wish to consult with any of MUMS Private GPs for onward referral.
