Ultrasound Scan of the Spleen

At MUMS we offer ultrasound scan of the Spleen to patients aged 16 and over.

Your spleen sits below your left rib cage. Enlargement of the spleen can be caused by infection, liver disease and some cancers and does not normally cause any symptoms. Imaging such as ultrasound can help our radiographers and sonographers to detect and identify the cause. The spleen has a number of bodily functions as it is part of the lymphatic system and is responsible for filtering the blood and invading pathogens. The ultrasound examination of the spleen can enable our radiographers and sonographers to diagnose pain or distention ( enlargement). Ultrasound is safe and non-invasive.

There is no preparation for Spleen Ultrasound.

We can offer peace of mind and reassurance with high calibre radiographers performing a scan on your Spleen.

MUMS patients can self-refer or bring a referral from their clinician. There are no waiting times and booking is easy. A Spleen Ultrasound scan costs £195.00. You will be given a report at the end of the scan. The report can be analysed by MUMS clinicians for any onward referral.

You can call us on 0121 704 2669 to book or you can make an enquiry on our website. You can even book an pay online.

MUMS has been offering ultrasound for two decades – offering affordable ultrasound for rapid diagnosis using the the most experienced clinicians.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No, you do not need a referral, you can just book in for a scan. We will provide you with a full report at the end of the scan and you can forward a copy to your GP as well.
  • We will ask you to not eat or drink anything after 9pm the night before the scan, except for water. If you have a full abdominal scan, it is good to drink water as we can measure your bladder before and after emptying to make sure there is no urine retention.
  • You get the results immediately after the scan, we email you a copy of the report and we can give you a printed copy for your GP as well.
