MUMS GPs offer vaccination against Hepatitis A.

Hepatitis A is a liver infection which is caused by the Hep A virus. It is very contagious and can be detected in the blood and stools of people who are infected with Hepatitis A.

You can catch Hepatitis A from sexual activity with someone, being a drug user, or being a carer of someone who is infected. You can spread Hepatitis A before your symptoms start.

MUMS offer the Hepatitis A blood test to see if you have the virus. We send your blood to our partner laboratory who send the result to us electronically.

There is no treatment for Hepatitis A virus and any damage to the liver is healed within 24 weeks usually. Rest is advised as you will suffer fatigue and have less energy than normal. You may feel nauseas. You should drink plenty water and avoid alcohol if you are infected with Hepatitis A. We advise you to avoid sexual contact to prevent spreading and practice good hygiene. Do not prepare others food whilst you are infected with Hepatitis A.

MUMS private Hepatitis testing service will show whether you have Hepatitis or whether your result shows you have had Hep A previously.
