Milk and Milk Proteins Allergy testing at MUMS for Adults and Children

A milk and milk proteins allergy blood test can be very helpful for several important reasons:

Clarifies the Cause of Symptoms

Milk allergy symptoms can vary widely, including:

  • Skin rashes, eczema, hives
  • Stomach pain, bloating, diarrhoea
  • Vomiting or reflux (especially in children)
  • Wheezing or breathing issues
  • Ongoing unexplained inflammation

Testing helps confirm whether milk proteins (such as casein and whey) are triggering an immune response.

Differentiates Allergy from Intolerance

Many people confuse:

  • Milk allergy (immune system reaction – potentially serious)
    with
  • Lactose intolerance (digestive enzyme deficiency – not immune-related)

A blood test helps determine whether the issue is an IgE-mediated allergy, rather than lactose intolerance.

Improves Dietary Decisions

Without proper testing, people may:

  • Unnecessarily eliminate dairy
  • Miss hidden sources of milk proteins
  • Struggle with persistent symptoms

Clear results allow for targeted dietary adjustments instead of guesswork.

Supports Safer Management

If a true allergy is present, identifying it allows:

  • Risk assessment for severe reactions
  • Proper medical guidance
  • Safe planning for children in schools or nurseries

Helpful for Children & Ongoing Eczema

Milk protein allergy is particularly common in:

  • Infants and young children
  • Children with eczema
  • Those with other allergic conditions

Testing can be an important part of investigating chronic symptoms.

Having an Allergy Test to see if you have a particular food allergy/sensitivity/intolerance at MUMS Solihull is easy. We offer simple blood tests but combine several different substances together to make a profile to give you a bigger picture of what type of food you may be allergic to or intolerant of.

You may well think you are allergic to Milk and Milk Proteins.

You may not know what you are allergic to and want to find out to avoid any of the above.

Cow’s milk allergy is common and most common in infants. The allergy presents itself with rashes, digestive discomfort, and wheezing.

One of the most common childhood food allergies is cow’s milk and protein. We know that approximately 7% of babies under the age of 1 year are affected. Sometimes the symptoms can last until the child is 5 years old.

Our GPs can advise when to try alternatives such as soy milk and calcium replacement.

Our GPs test allergies in children and adults and offer advice and testing 6 days a week.

Lactose intolerance can be unpleasant and can cause wind and bloating and abdominal discomfort.

There is a huge difference between intolerance and allergy. Milk allergy is an immune condition whereas intolerance is not.

Milk allergy is an abnormal response by the body's immune system to milk and products containing milk.

Immune conditions can potentially be life threatening whereas intolerances are not.

Our allergy component testing may be a better option for you than our single allergy tests.
