Quality Control

The ALEX2 test, also known as the Allergy Explorer, has demonstrated high specificity in identifying specific allergens. In one study, the average specificity for PR-10 allergens was 88.0%, and when only low Ige concentrations were included, it reached 91.1%. Another study found that the ALEX2 test had a high specificity in detecting peanut allergy when using the optimal cut-off for Ara h 2, reaching 89.1%.

Key points about ALEX2 specificity:

High specificity:

The ALEX2 test generally exhibits high specificity, meaning it correctly identifies individuals who do not have a specific allergy as negative.

In one study, the average specificity for PR-10 allergens was 88.0%, and when only low Ige concentrations were included, it reached 91.1%

Optimal cut-off values:

Using optimal cut-off values for specific allergens can further improve the specificity of the ALEX2 test.

Clinical implications:

The high specificity of ALEX2 helps to minimize false positive results, ensuring more accurate diagnosis and management of allergies.

Following a clinical audit at MUMS – we note than approximately 20% of MUMS patients tested for ALEX2 reported as negative – no allergies found.
