Private Tick-borne encephalitis vaccination for Adults 16+

MUMS Private GPs offer Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) vaccine to adults. TBE is a virus spread by tick bites. You should check the risk of the area in which you are travelling to, especially if you plan to engage in outdoor activities.

Doses are at least 2 weeks apart

The first dose should be at least one month before travelling

As with all vaccinations, 100% immunity from being vaccinated – cannot be guaranteed and so you need to reduce your risk as well as vaccination by:

• Avoiding tick bites
• Check your clothing and wear light colours so ticks are easier to spot
• Avoid walking or brushing your legs against plants that could have ticks on them
• Use insect repellent
• Wear long trousers and long-sleeved tops
• Remove a tick that has bitten you as soon as possible with tweezers
• Clean the area where the tick was as soon as possible
• The safest way to avoid getting tick-borne encephalitis is to vaccinate.

Symptoms of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) include – temperature, fatigue, headache, flu-like symptoms, nausea.

The injection is given in the upper arm.

Side effects from the injection include fatigue, nausea, and headache.

Tick Borne Encephalitis can cause serious complications such as inflammation of the brain.
