Meningococcal meningitis is spread through sneezing, coughing, or direct contact with respiratory secretions. It is an acute disease that can cause serious systemic infection.
Although respiratory infections are often difficult to prevent – hygiene when coughing and sneezing can help, and we recommended avoiding overcrowded areas to reduce your exposure risk where this disease is prevalent.
If any of these or a multiple of these symptoms occur, then it is important to contact the emergency services.
The disease is transmitted by sneezing, coughing, or direct contact with respiratory secretions. The bacteria are found in the nasal passages of healthy individuals.
