Microsuction is the gold standard for ear wax removal.

Ear Microsuction is performed by our ENT surgeons, Mr. Basavaiah Natesh and Miss Emma Hoskison, to remove earwax using a microscope and suction. Both Mr Natesh (male) and Miss Hoskison (female) are expert specialist ear, nose, and throat consultants.

Whilst removing wax, the ear canal and drum are viewed under the microscope. Ear wax removal using microsuction takes 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

Ear Microsuction is performed with you lying down on a bed with your head tilted to the side. You can have both ears treated in one appointment.

In contrast to ear irrigation or syringing, which flush out earwax "blindly," microsuction with a microscope enables the removal of earwax to be immediately observed under the microscope. As a result, the patient is significantly safer and more at ease during the treatment.

Recent guidance from NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) states that ear syringing should no longer be used.  As a result, alternatives such as Microsuction with an ENT Consultant is the gold standard.
