If you opt for a GP consultation in which to have the test, then you will be followed up with a telephone consultation to have the results explained to you. If you opt for a simple phlebotomy appointment, we will email your results to you.
The turnaround time for the results getting back to MUMS is 24 hours.
The Hepatitis B Core Antibodies Test is often referred to as HBV antibody test.
MUMS GPs may want to see if you have a liver infection caused by Hepatitis B virus. If you have symptoms of Hepatitis B – MUMS GPs may choose this test.
MUMS Private GPs also vaccinate patients against Hepatitis B. However, although being immunised against Hepatitis B offers protection – if you have already contracted Hepatitis B – there is no cure. You should take precautions to prevent you giving the virus to other people.
Hepatitis B Core Antibody does not give protection whatsoever. It does not mean that patients are immune to Hepatis B virus. It will show whether you have been infected with the Hepatitis B Virus previously if the result is positive or reactive.
The Hepatitis B core antibody is what your own immune system produces after you have been infected with Hepatitis B virus. This test will show whether you have had it in the past or have a new infection.
MUMS offer the Hepatitis B test which is a surface antigen test – to see if you currently have Hepatitis B or if this Hepatitis B Core Antibody test to see if you have had it in the past.
