Private Fetal Development Scan 16-20wks

This is a detailed scan during of the baby’s anatomy from 16-20 weeks which you can opt to have for peace of mind before your 20-week Scan.

Many mums find it is a long wait from the 12-week scan to the 20-week anomaly scan, especially as at this stage – fetal movements are not always felt.

The main purpose of this scan is to exclude abnormalities at this stage of your baby’s development.

Fetal Development Scans are reassuring because they can provide the best opportunity to examine some of the anatomy of your baby in detail. The scan is performed by a Senior Sonographer or Fetal Medicine Consultant.

This scan looks at baby’s anatomy including:

• Head
• Brain
• Face (cleft palate)
• Spine (spina-bifida)
• Heart
• Kidneys
• Bladder
• Stomach (abdominal wall defects)
• Arms
• Legs (club foot)
• Fetal growth
• Amniotic fluid
• Placental position
• Cord insertion

At 16 weeks your baby is fully formed and although small, all the above can be seen. However, this scan does not replace the 20-week Anomaly scan. If gender is visible, we can confirm this for you.

MUMS clinicians are qualified to perform diagnostic fetal development scans. Our consultants are Mr Anoop Rehal, Maternal-Fetal Medicine Consultant and Mr Davide Casagrandi, Speciality Doctor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. MUMS Consultants are highly qualified specialists with NHS and Private experience in diagnostic pregnancy scanning. MUMS Senior Sonographers – Helen and Bubby also offer 16-20 week fetal development scans.

If any abnormalities are detected, the significance of the findings will be discussed with you on the day and a referral to your booking hospital/screening team can be arranged for further management within the NHS system.

The cost of a 16–20 week Fetal Development Scan is £120 or £200 for Twins.
