Private MSK (Musculoskeletal) Foot Ultrasound Scan

MUMS Radiographer – Mr Adrian Burman offers MSK Foot Ultrasound Scans to patients aged 16 and over.

A MSK Foot scan will assess the major and some minor tendons, ligaments, and nerves around the Foot, whether it be related to pain and/or reduced movement from sports injuries, old age or general health conditions such as rheumatology and arthritis.  

Foot USS sound waves produce pictures of muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, bone, and soft tissues of the Foot. The radiographer can diagnose abnormalities of the muscles, for example tears and soft tissue masses. Foreign bodies can be seen as can bleeding, infection and some types of fluid collection. Ultrasound can diagnose benign and malignant soft tissue tumours. Arthritis can be seen on foot ultrasound.

Foot Ultrasound can diagnose:

• Achilles tendonitis
• Plantar fasciitis
• Heel spurs
• Torn Tendons
• Ligament injuries
• Fractures
• Mortons Neuroma
• Tarsal tunnel syndrome
• Arthritis
• Bursitis
• Capsulitis

There is no need for a referral – you can self-refer for peace of mind. 

There is no preparation for a MSK Foot Ultrasound Scan.

Gel is used to glide the transducer for images and measurements of the foot area by the radiographer.

You will be given a detailed report on the day that you can give to your referring clinician and a copy will be in your MUMS electronic medical record should you wish to consult with any of MUMS Private GPs for onward referral.
