Private MSK (Musculoskeletal) Ultrasound Scan – Elbow

MUMS Radiographer – Mr Adrian Burman offers MSK Elbow Ultrasound Scans to patients aged 16 and over.

An MSK elbow scan will assess the major and some minor tendons, ligaments, and nerves around the elbow body parts, whether it be related to pain and/or reduced movement from sports injuries, old age or general health conditions such as rheumatology and arthritis.  

The elbow joint is a complex joint. MUMS often scan patients with elbow pain, which is generally caused by overuse such as trauma and inflammatory disease.

Activities which involve excessive movements of the elbow can cause stress on the ligaments, tendons, and muscles that stabilize the joint. These types of injuries happen gradually. They can aggravate conditions such as tendonitis, tennis elbow, and golfer’s elbow.

An MSK scan of your elbow at MUMS will reveal as to whether there is any tennis or golfers’ elbow from excessive and repetitive movements of the elbow joint.

There is no need for a referral – you can self-refer for peace of mind. 

There is no preparation needed for a MSK Elbow Ultrasound Scan.

Gel is used to glide the transducer and pictures and measurements of the Elbow Joint area are taken by the Radiographer.

You will be given a detailed report on the day that you can give to your referring clinician and a copy will be in your MUMS electronic medical record should you wish to consult with any of MUMS Private GPs for onward referral.

There are no waiting times at MUMS.
