Private Paediatric ECG in Birmingham & Solihull

Private ECG for Children

At MUMS Clinic, we offer private electrocardiograms (ECGs) for children and young people in a calm, friendly environment, without the long waits often associated with NHS referrals.

An ECG is a quick, painless test that records the electrical activity of the heart. It can help identify abnormal heart rhythms, assess symptoms, or provide reassurance when there are concerns about a child's heart health.

What is an ECG?

An electrocardiogram (ECG) uses small adhesive electrodes placed on the chest, arms, and legs to record the heart's electrical signals. The test is completely non-invasive, does not involve needles, and usually takes just 5–10 minutes.

Why might my child need an ECG?

A paediatric ECG may be recommended if your child has:

  • Chest pain
  • Palpitations or awareness of their heartbeat
  • Dizziness or fainting (blackouts)
  • Episodes of unexplained collapse
  • Breathlessness during exercise
  • A heart murmur requiring further assessment
  • High blood pressure
  • A family history of inherited heart conditions or sudden cardiac death
  • Symptoms before starting certain medications (such as some ADHD medicines), where an ECG has been recommended
  • Follow-up after a previous heart condition or cardiac investigation

What happens during the appointment?

Your child will be asked to lie comfortably on an examination couch. Small sticky electrodes are placed on the chest, wrists, and ankles. The recording takes only a few seconds and is completely painless.

Our clinicians are experienced in working with children and aim to make the experience as relaxed and reassuring as possible.

What happens after the ECG?

Your ECG will be reviewed by a Paediatric Cardiologist. Depending on the reason for the test, the results may:

  • Provide reassurance if the tracing is normal.
  • Identify changes that require further investigation.
  • Be shared with your GP or referring clinician if requested.
  • Lead to referral to a paediatric cardiologist if specialist assessment is recommended.

We will share the ECG Report with you electronically if you opt for an ECG Only with MUMS Nurse. Dr Chikermane will provide you with a verbal and written report if you opt for a cardiology consultation.

An ECG is an important screening tool but does not diagnose every heart condition. Occasionally, further tests such as an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound), Holter monitor or exercise ECG may be advised.

  • Fast appointments with minimal waiting
