Private LH Test - Luteinising Hormone

A luteinizing hormone test measures how much luteinizing hormone (LH) is in your blood.

LH is produced by the pituitary gland which is located in the base of the brain. It stimulates the ovaries in women and testes in men.

In women this test is performed as part of your menopause profile, or fertility investigations. This test can also help diagnose women having premature ovarian insufficiency or premature menopause. This test is often performed as part of investigations for PCOS.

LH in women triggers ovulation (egg release) and regulates the menstrual cycle.

LH is mainly done early in a woman’s cycle – Day 2 to 3 to assess baseline or mid-cycle to pinpoint ovulation.

In men LH stimulates the testes to produce testosterone. In men the LH levels don’t fluctuate as much . This test is helpful to find cause of male factor infertility amongst other conditions.
