Miss Poonam Pradhan is a senior Consultant Gynaecologist who offers Minor Surgical Vulval Procedures at MUMS. Miss Pradhan can assess, remove, and send to the laboratory for analysis any of the following lesions affecting the vulva, outer vagina, labia minora and majora:
The Vulva is the area surrounding the vagina and includes the labia which are the inner and outer vaginal lips. Lumps, Bumps, Tags, Cysts, Lesions can appear on the vulval area which you may want to remove for aesthetic or medical reasons. You may wish to have this minor surgery because of the unsightly appearance or because this is causing problems for you.
MUMS offers a private vulval minor surgery assessment and removal service with Miss Pradhan so that you can discuss options such as incision, excision, and drainage of your vulval lesion. This is an outpatient procedure performed under local anaesthetic.
On the day of the assessment, Miss Pradhan will diagnose and categorise the type of lump/bump and explain the procedure to remove. You can decide whether you want Miss Pradhan to remove it on the same day as the assessment or reschedule. You will probably need a couple of stitches if cutting or excision is performed . This is a straight-forward procedure.
Most lumps, bumps, lesions, cysts etc on the vulval area are usually innocent and not sinister. To differentiate which are potentially serious or benign, Miss Pradhan will recommend that the removed tissue is sent to MUMS partner laboratory. Miss Pradhan- will explain to you her findings upon assessment and whether she feels the lump, bump, lipoma, lesion, or cyst appears suspicious and if the removed tissue requires laboratory pathology analysis. If we send the tissue to the laboratory the cost is £240 for analysis. Most removed tissue is sent to the laboratory for analysis. It is rare that it will not need to be sent off.
Miss Pradhan will proceed to remove any of the above even if they are totally asymptomatic if they bother you or if they have started to enlarge. Some cysts can get infected and develop into an abscess. Removal is a minor procedure as is drainage, incision, and/or excision. The area will be numbed with local anaesthetic, and we will obtain your consent prior to the removal.
Miss Pradhan offers this Gynaecological Assessment and Removal Service at our state-of-the-art private clinic in Solihull to women of all ages. Miss Pradhan will inform you of the risks and benefits of removal and any likelihood of recurrence of the removed tissue. Consent will be obtained and Aftercare will be discussed with you during the assessment.
The costs are per lesion for assessment and removal. We ask you to pay a £150 deposit for the assessment and the removal cost of £250 and any laboratory pathology analysis of £240 is payable on discharge. Lumps, bumps, and cysts can vary in size, shape, and texture. Bartholin’s Cysts are not removed at MUMS but can be diagnosed in the assessment.
It is not possible to perform this procedure if you have a pacemaker. Please make us aware at the time of booking if you have a pacemaker and still wish to have an assessment only with no procedure.
Laboratory pathology reports are usually available within one week of the initial appointment. Bank Holidays can cause a delay in results. Sometimes, the laboratory needs to complete further testing, which can also incur a delay. When we receive the result of your tissue, we share a copy with Miss Pradhan and organise a free of charge follow-up to discuss the results.
Some lumps, bumps, cysts, or lipomas may need a small biopsy in the first instance and the biopsy tissue sent to the laboratory for analysis. This costs £240 for laboratory pathology analysis and £175 for the biopsy. We can take a biopsy during the assessment.
You may just want peace of mind to know that the lump, bump, lipoma, or cyst is not cancerous. You may just want to know what causes them and what your options are. Miss Pradhan can assess, advise, treat, and remove. These are common and easily treated with minor surgery. Sometimes they can grow bigger and are often small, harmless, and painless.
Removal of lumps, bumps, lipomas, cysts are swift and affordable at MUMS – in a CQC registered environment with only expert clinicians who are suitably qualified to carry out private minor surgery.
You will be given a patient information leaflet to take home and offered a free of charge follow up appointment.
You do not need a referral from your GP. The NHS does not offer this service as it is regarded as a service of limited clinical value and regarded as a cosmetic procedure so opting for private removal of lumps and bumps is now common in private practice.
