Acne Consultation and Treatment at MUMS

MUMS Private GPs have extended specialist roles in Dermatology and Minor Surgery. Dr Vandna Sharma specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of acne.

The British Association of Dermatologists recognise GPs as GPs with an extended dermatology role. This is a recognised qualification.

Private Acne Treatment

Dr Vandna offers consultations and treatment for Acne on Thursdays. Consultations cost £235.

Skin conditions such as acne can leave you feeling embarrassed, self-conscious, and low. If you have acne and have tried over the counter medications and want a specialist opinion to control your acne, avoid scarring then you can see Dr Vandna Sharma at MUMS – to discuss various treatments including oil reduction production to tackle your acne.

As skin complaints are visible to yourself and others, unlike a lot of other illnesses – this can have an impact on your confidence.

Dr Vandna will decide with you which is the most appropriate and best treatment for your acne, based on your age and the type of acne you have. Dr Vandna will discuss the risks and benefits of all the different types of acne medication such as topical medication and oral medication or a combination and indeed the side effects of the various options.

Retinoids ( topical medication) are used for moderate acne and prevent hair follicle plugging.

Antibiotics kill bacteria and can be used in combination with retinoid topical applications. Antibiotics are used for moderate acne and often the first choice.

Combined oral contraceptives which combine progestin and oestrogen may be an option for some women with acne.

Anti-androgen medications can be considered for women if oral antibiotics are not helping.

Special medication for acne is prescribed for people with severe acne that has not responded to other forms of treatment. Some drugs can only be prescribed by a Consultant Dermatologist or by Dr Vandna Sharma who has an extended role/further qualification in dermatology and who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of acne. If Dr Vandna prescribes this for you – she will explain the side effects and monitor your liver function throughout the cycle of treatment. A liver function test costs £90 at MUMS.

At MUMS we understand the constraints of the NHS waiting times.  Opting for private dermatology remove undue stress. It is, for this reason, we are working in partnership with expert GPs in Dermatology to serve the local population with fast access to dermatology to avoid delays in diagnosis.

There are no waiting times and MUMS. Dr Vandna can help you understand and manage your skin problems with short and long-term treatments that best suit your needs.
