Varicose Vein Treatment

MUMS Solihull offers varicose vein treatment with Mr Sanjay Singh – Consultant Vascular Surgeon. Certain factors cause varicose veins – pregnancy, weight gain. Many patients do not like the aesthetic appearance of their varicose veins and find them uncomfortable. If you suffer from varicose veins, you know just how unsightly they can be and may want to improve the appearance of your leg and rid of discomfort.

It is difficult to get varicose vein treatment within the NHS for cosmetic reasons. At MUMS we offer great outcomes with our minimally invasive varicose vein removal treatments in a one stop setting.

What is the difference between varicose veins and thread veins?

Varicose veins and thread veins are different and therefore require different treatments. Varicose veins are large, dark purple or blue and can be found on the legs. Thread veins can be found on the face and legs and are red, sometimes blue and are closer to the outer skin than varicose veins.

We offer Sclerotherapy and RFA (Radio Frequency Ablation)

  • Sclerotherapy is often performed on patient’s thread veins – in conjunction with ultrasound guided assistance. Sclerotherapy foam is safe, effective and complications are reduced.
  • RFA is performed on varicose veins on the legs – in conjunction with ultrasound guided assistance. NICE recommends this treatment which is performed under local anaesthetic. The radiofrequency treats troublesome varicose veins, is less painful and convenient. It is safe and effective and uses heat to seal off the affected veins. Mr Singh performs this under local anaesthesia to collapse and seal shut the unsightly veins.

MUMS varicose vein prices are affordable and performed by Mr Sanjay Singh – who is highly experienced in the treatment of varicose veins.

Mr Singh offers two options:

  • Consultation and Treatment in a one stop setting.
  • Consultation and Treatment in a separate future appointment

Mr Singh will consult with you and perform ultrasound scan on your leg/s. The consultation and scan costs £400 and this enables the vascular surgeon to decide which treatment you need for the very best outcome and explain the procedure and the costs. The different treatments are listed below:

Consultation and Treatment with Mr Singh at MUMS Solihull for Varicose Veins

The consultation involves taking a history, examining the veins, and performing an ultrasound scan on your legs. The ultrasound consists of the front leg, deep venous ultrasound and back venous per leg. Following this Mr Singh will advise you which treatment will give you the best outcome, an explanation about the treatment and the cost associated with that treatment. You will be fully informed, and consent will be obtained. You will be given a varicose vein aftercare leaflet and informed about the risks.

What are the benefits of RFA?

RFA offers several benefits compared to traditional vein stripping surgery. These benefits include:

Minimally invasive:

RFA is performed through a small incision, which means less pain, scarring, and downtime compared to traditional surgery.

High success rate:

RFA has a success rate of over 95%, with most patients experiencing significant improvement in their symptoms.

Quick procedure:

RFA can be performed in as little as 30 minutes, allowing you to return to your normal activities the same day.

Improved appearance:

RFA can help improve the appearance of your legs by reducing the appearance of varicose veins.

Recovery and Downtime and what to expect from RFA Treatment

During your RFA treatment, you will be awake and alert, and you may feel some pressure or mild discomfort during the procedure. After the procedure, you may experience some mild pain or discomfort, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications.

You will be able to walk out of MUMS and resume activities straight away apart from cycling, swimming and mountain climbing. You will be wearing support stockings for 48 hours without showering and for 5 days after that you can shower but wear stockings day and night.

Most patients can resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure, although we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for a few days.
