A Mummy MOT is a specialist postnatal examination for women following both vaginal and C-section deliveries. It will assess how your posture, pelvic floor muscles and stomach muscles are recovering after childbirth. Miriam will provide you with gentle exercises and treatment to help with your recovery – and get you back on track with your fitness goals.
Specialist Physiotherapy:
As a specialist Physiotherapist Miriam is fully trained and licensed to carry out a Mummy MOT®. Mums need to bend, squat and lift so we provide clinical postnatal care and functional exercises for our clients following birth (no matter how long ago).

What Miriam says:
“ I am so pleased to be able to offer The Mummy MOT at MUMS Solihull because I have seen first hand how much it can help with the initial stages of recovery after having a baby. Having had two children of my own with a two-year gap between them I am very aware of the physical demands of being a mum. To be able to offer a service in which I can holistically assess new mums and support them in their journey back to fitness or just give them the confidence to be able to keep up with the daily routine of mum life makes a real difference. Whilst it is essential that babies receive a thorough post-natal check, mums often miss out so we are here to make sure that is not the case.”
Yes, we totally understand it can be hard to find someone to care for your baby or you may not feel you want to leave your baby in the early days particularly if you are breastfeeding so of course you can bring your baby. However, you may find it beneficial, if you have someone who you are happy to leave your baby with to be able to focus on your own health and recovery.
We are not required to share information from the appointment with your GP but you will receive a summary of your appointment which you can share with other health professionals if you wish.
Yes, Miriam has had specialist training and a lot of experience in assessing abdominal separation (diastasis recti) where indicated she may also use diagnostic ultrasound to give in depth measurements of this gap.
Of course, a Mummy MOT is for all mums and Miriam has specialist knowledge in assessing ladies post C-section and encouraging appropriate movement, scar tissue massage and healing.
We suggest leaving it 6 weeks after the birth of your baby but there is no limit to time after that it could be 6 weeks or 6 years and a Mummy MOT will still be beneficial. If you have concerns before 6 weeks and are keen to see someone before 6 weeks we can also consider this depending on your symptoms.
No, for some mums a vaginal examination is useful to assess healing, muscle strength and other possible complications following childbirth, but this is not a priority for every mum and entirely your choice. It is also possible to use diagnostic ultrasound to assess pelvic floor muscle activity and movement.
A consultation lasts 1 hour including producing a summary and appropriate guidance and exercises.
You are welcome to bring someone with you to your appointment, if you are bringing your baby with you this may be helpful but again this is entirely your choice. You may want a bit of time to focus on you.
