If you have had a traumatic birth, use of forceps or sustained a tear you will be more at risk of postnatal complications such as urinary incontinence, pelvic pain or bowel symptoms such as leakage of wind or faecal matter. These conditions can cause considerable distress and although common should in no way be considered normal and they need specialist pelvic health physiotherapy assessment and treatment.
