Our bodies require nutrients such as Vitamin B for optimum metabolism and energy production. Vitamin B12 plays a part in cell, skin, and bone growth. It is essential for the organs and nervous system.  When we test your Vitamin B levels at MUMS, we are evaluating the amount of Vitamin B in our blood to ascertain your nutritional status.

B vitamins are absorbed from the diet, used as needed, and any excess is removed from the body through the urine.

The body can only store small amounts and so we need regular intakes of Vitamin B from foods or supplements regularly.

If you have low Vitamin B12 levels or folate anaemia deficiency – you will inevitably experience symptoms and left untreated can worsen.

Anaemia is where you have fewer red blood cells than normal, or you have an abnormally low amount of a substance called haemoglobin in each red blood cell.

The following is a list of Vitamin B12 deficient symptoms:

  • a pale-yellow tinge to your skin
  • a sore and red tongue (glossitis)
  • changes in the way that you walk and move around
  • You may feel irritable
  • You have present with disturbed vision
  • The way you think, feel, and behave may change
  • You may be forgetful or not as sharp.

MUMS can test you and see if your Vitamin B levels are out of range.

Vitamin B12 injections are available at MUMS for those patients who are deficient.
