Mr Chris Griffin FRANZCOG MMED CMFM DDU

 

Mr Chris Griffin :-

Chris is from South Wales, having trained in Southampton he spent time in Australia as a Flying Doctor in General Practice before taking forward his specialist interest in Fetal and Maternal Medicine.  He is a fully qualified and accredited sub-specialist in all aspects of pregnancy care with particular expertise and experience in Ultrasound scanning.  He is a Fellow of the Royal Australia & New Zealand College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) and has the Fetal Medicine Foundation certificate for both Nuchal Translucency (NT) scanning and Nasal Bone (NB) assessment.  He has been a Consultant Obstetrician with Heartlands & Solihull Hospitals since 1999.  Chris has developed and leads the fetal medicine service within the trust creating close links with clinical genetics and the neonatal paediatricians.  All complex fetal medicine cases are supervised and overseen by Chris, who also enjoys normal pregnancy and delivery care

Mr Mike Wyldes:-

Mike was brought up in Solihull going to School at Tudor Grange and the Sixth Form College.  He is an Oxford University Graduate and was trained through the UK system in the Midlands after qualification in 1983.  Mike has been a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at Heartlands & Solihull Hospitals since 1994.  He has a major interest in Ultrasound being the lead for ultrasound training within the Trust.  He is the convenor and secretary of the West Midlands regional ultrasound group and runs the Regional Congenital Anomaly Register.  Mike has published on many ultrasound issues including congenital abnormalities and Marker’s for Down syndrome.  Mike is a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (FRCOG) and has the Fetal Medicine Foundation certificate for both Nuchal Translucency (NT) scanning and Nasal Bone (NB) assessment.  Mike is the lead consultant for Labour ward in the Trust and has a special interest in Labour care.  Mike has many years experience in general gynaecology both in the NHS and Privately.

Maria Benham B Med Sci, BM, BS, FRCA

Consultant Anaesthetist

Maria read Medicine at Nottingham University, graduating in 1989.  She trained in Anaesthetics in the West Midlands sub specializing in Obstetrics.  She was appointed as a Consultant in 1999 at Birmingham Heartlands and Solihull NHS Trust and has been lead clinician for obstetric anaesthesia since then.  Her particular interests are high risk delivery care (where the mother has medical problems either due to pregnancy or pre-existing), pain relief in labour and developing techniques during caesarean deliveries to help the parents delight in the birth of their baby.

Started work with MUMS: January 2004

 

Experience: I qualified as a midwife in 1989 and have extensive experience in all areas of midwifery. I have a special interest in ante-natal care and following my role as Antenatal Clinic Manager, I became the Antenatal Screening Midwife for Solihull Hospital, working within the Fetal Medicine Team.  During this time I undertook my obstetric ultrasound qualification.

 

How I fit into MUMS: I joined MUMS in January 2004 and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, together with a love of my job.

 

Marguerite Usher-Somers

  • Diploma of College of Radiographers (DCR) Londonderry, Northern Ireland, 1980.

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound, University of Central England, 1998.

 

Work experience: Worked as a radiographer at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham 1981-1982 and at the General Hospital, Birmingham 1982 – 1983.

 

Ultrasound career began at Birmingham Maternity Hospital in 1983.  Since then I

have worked mainly in obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound mainly at Birmingham Women’s Hospital but also at Marston Green Hospital, Sorrento Maternity Hospital, City Hospital and Heartlands Hospital.  

 

Began working at MUMS in May 2005.

 

Special interest in fetal echocardiography and fetal medicine ultrasonography.  I also have extensive experience in early pregnancy work and gynaecology ultrasound. I have taught a variety of professional people how to scan and have given talks in both ultrasound and, in the past, counselling skills.  

 

What do I give to MUMS?  I am able to offer a range of ultrasound skills appropriate for the practice.

Midwives

 

Vicki Campbell RM RGN

Vicky qualified as a registered nurse in 1985 specialising in gynaecology, prior to qualifying as a midwife in 1989.

 

As a midwife of seventeen years, I have a wide range of knowledge and experience in all aspects of midwifery, including antenatal screening, parent education, home confinements and postnatal care.

 

Vicky joined MUMS in 2004 working as a part of the midwifery team combining her NHS work as a Community Midwife within the Solihull area.  

 

Debbie Foster RM RGN

Debra joined MUMS in May 2004 as part of the midwifery team offering a broad range of services including antenatal screening and midwifery care.  In particular Debra has a keen interest in parent education, postnatal care and breastfeeding.

 

Debra qualified as a midwife in 1983 and has extensive experience in all levels of midwifery practice including antenatal screening, delivery suite and spent 10 years as a community midwife and team leader.

 

Debra combines her work with MUMS alongside her NHS role as West Midlands Regional Education and Training Facilitator for the NSC antenatal screening programmes.  In her spare time you’ll find Debra on the dance floor practising both Ceroc and Ballroom dancing!  

 

Brenda Bagnall

Brenda Bagnall has been with MUMS since May 2004 and works as part of the midwifery team, offering a wide range of services including antenatal screening and midwifery care.

 

Brenda qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1984 and then as a midwife in 1991. She has had a variety of experience in all areas of midwifery.  Brenda’s work at MUMS, runs alongside her role as a midwife at Solihull Hospital’s Antenatal Clinic.

 

Her role at MUMS allows her to offer individual support and care to all patients.   She is currently involved in extending her role towards offering Parent Education Services.

I have been a consultant paediatrician with a major interest in newborn care for over 15 years practising in Solihull and Heartlands Hospitals as well as MUMS in Knowle and BUPA Parkway in Solihull. I am also a general paediatrician offering specialist care to children from birth to 16 years. I am able to offer the following services:

Experience: I have 11 years experience working in a medical background.  I was Chris Griffin and Mike Wyldes’ medical secretary at Heartlands Hospital before helping to set up MUMS.  

 

How I fit into MUMS:  I am a full-time administrator.  I work as part of a busy admin team, which includes answering telephone enquiries and appointment making.  I enjoy meeting patients and sharing the excitement of their pregnancy with them.  MUMS also offer a range of holistic therapies – I practice Indian Head Massage and am currently training to be a reflexologist.

Experience: I have worked within the specialty of obstetrics and gynaecology for 15 years.  I worked for 13 years as an administrator/auditor for the West Midlands Perinatal Institute.  I was involved with auditing pregnancy outcomes, working closely with clinical staff throughout the West Midlands.  I have worked on several regional and national projects and confidential enquiries; including diabetes in pregnancy, maternal deaths, premature delivery and congenital abnormalities.  

 

I also have two young boys whose social lives keep me very busy!!

 

How I fit into MUMS:  I am a practice administrator working in the office with Sandra and Josephine.  I work 21 hours a week in the office.  I enjoy speaking to patients and being able to reassure those who are anxious and able to offer appointments at short notice.

How I fit into MUMS:  I have a dual role at MUMS: I am a practice administrator working in the office with Sandra and Donna.  I work 21 hours a week and cover some Saturdays on Reception – which is nice as I get to meet all the patients face-to-face.  I also spend much of my time practising General and Maternity Reflexology as part of the holistic therapies we are proud to offer our patients.  I find my reflexology practice particularly rewarding.

 

Alison Wynne (Receptionist)

Experience: Nine years working as a medical receptionist within the NHS and the National Blood Transfusion Service.  Two years working as a medicines counter assistant for Lloyds Pharmacy.

 

 

 I work 21 hours a week on the reception at MUMS.  I thoroughly enjoy my job, meeting all the patients and working as part of the team at MUMS.  It is particularly pleasing to receive photographs of the ‘bumps’ after they have made their entrance into the world – I enjoy adding them to the MUMS baby books – the books are in the reception area, please feel free to browse through them.
